"Advices from ACV Relocation Solutions were of great help to me.

I arrived in Buchs on November 25th and a few days to organize everything to start my new life. As a foreigner who has problem communicating in German and could not be less familiar with rules, regulations and lifestyle in Switzerland, I was really worried about how to get registered in the community centre? How and where to get insured? How to buy furniture and bring them home? How to pay the bills, and a lot more question marks all before starting my new job…
The first thing I did the day after my arrival was meeting Claudia Doron, thanks to her ,in just two days every thing I needed to organize was efficiently done, Besides I moved to my new flat which was found by the help of Acv and I couldn't be happier with that choice!

You might be able to do all those alone but I am not sure if you can save enough energy to focus on your main activities like the new job you may start! Ask ACV for their service and buy yourself time, relief, a god start and knowledge about your new life.

Now every time I run into Claudia in the street I know a problem will be solved, thanks to her I never felt lonely from the first moments of my arrival.

Thank you ACV team!"

Dear ACV Infra AG

Relocation Solutions

I’d like to express all my appreciation for the outstanding support given me by Mrs Claudia Doron since last November ‘07 up to the end of February ‘08.

Thanks to Claudia I’ve found a very nice flat, I’ve been able to solve all the bureaucratic procedures with local Authorities in a fast and effective way, she also helped me in finding all what I needed in starting my new life.

I’d like to thank Claudia’s availability in helping me also during week ends or late evenings, always with her so friendly and effective presence. A true resource and reference point for me.

I also appreciate a lot the initiative that Claudia is sponsoring for creating an international community in Buchs, with events and opportunity to meet other people from Switzerland and other Countries, that I hope to have opportunity to attend on future times.

Kind Regards

A.Coppola, Italy

Dear Claudia

Only 72 hours on Swiss soil & we had been in & out of appointments every day since touchdown.

Our heads spinning, we were feeling very much like part of a Salvador Dali painting and resorted to laughter as a means of sanity as we frequently felt like we were chasing our tails, (the past 5 weeks in Australia had prepared us well).  As we achieve one step, another began..........within 8 days of arriving in Switzerland you must register in the local canton (state/territory) & inform them that you are here with the intention of living permanently.  Once securing a potential permanent address, you can obtain an offer for health insurance which you require to begin our residency permit applications.  In order to finalize an apartment contract you need to obtain house insurance....all of which you require a bank account & in order to open a bank account you need to hold a residency permit.

Needless to say, with all the procedures & formalities above, we would not have kept our heads above water without the support & assistance of Claudia at acv-relocation solutions who was (..and is) our Guardian Angel.  Prior to arrival we considered ourselves reasonably organized having read ‘Living & Working in Switzerland’ & learning some basic German, none of which really prepared us at all for the discrepancies between German & Swiss German along with the multitude of regulations & requirements we had a head of us.

Leaving a life that you take for granted & arriving in a new Country is an enormous step for anyone.  I personally felt like I had lost everything that I had worked so hard for, including my independence & that starting from scratch was almost like learning to walk again.

With questions as absurd as “where in the world do I get the special local garbage bags from”, Claudia’s guidance, support & confidence was second to none & at no stage did she make me feel that my questions & enquiries were as ridiculous as indeed they were.

Dear Claudia

I just wanted to thank you for all of your support during our move to the Rheintal region.

As a family with 4 young children the move was quite daunting for us, but you helped to make it is smooth and as painless as possible. Indeed your help with finding accommodation and all matters administrative meant we could concentrate on our children and make sure they settled in quickly.

Thank you again for all your help, and I would certainly be happy to recommend your services to anyone else moving in to the region.

With kind regards and thanks

“If Switzerland is famous for clocks and chocolates, then in the Buchs area they should add the ACV Relocation Solution as a local and regional invaluable asset..

Hi, I am Alex and I was offered a position in Buchs, teaching Literature and Philosophy. I visited in early March of last year (2006) and I loved the school, the location, and the city. Then I got busy finishing exams, preparing scouts for the International Jamboree and consulting on a program in Chile. There was no time to look for an apartment across the globe! My current school recommended to get in touch with Claudia Doron of the ACV Relocation Solutions, so I fired up an e-mail and within a week Claudia had found me a place, sent me pictures, agreed on the price and services and we had the contract signed immediately after. You see most of the agencies would stop there, since they have secured the client and their commission, but not ACV. The following few weeks, I was asking Claudia this and that details of life in Switzerland, questions that she answered not only based on personal experience, but also on research for many of them, right down to the name and phone number of an Orthodox church in the area. Of course, this highly efficient and organized woman continued to work on my behalf and she found me a bed, since my furniture would have been delayed, even measured to fit a washer in my apartment.

Finally, I arrived late in the night in Buchs and Claudia was there waiting with the keys to welcome me home. The next day I visited her office and I noticed the same attitude with her colleagues, highly proficient, dynamic, punctual. It is worth telling that Claudia had finalized the phone connection in my house well before I arrived, then she showed me some of the bargains in town from supermarkets to furniture stores.

So ACV Relocation Solutions meet and exceed the Swiss clocks accuracy, they are also smooth in their transactions, with sweet people, with a service that doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste, all of the finest qualities of the rich Swiss chocolate… and believe me I know chocolate.

Thank you much for everything

Claudia and the team from ACV-Relocation were a great help to my wife and I in finding an apartment in the Dornbirn (Austria) area. It is a difficult market to find the right apartment in the Vorarlberg region. Claudia and ACV-Relocation made it easy by frequently sending me emails including weblinks to various apartments that fit our criteria. They also followed up to make sure everything was alright and if we needed any additional assistance in our relocation. Thank you Claudia and ACV-Relocation for all your help!

“To be a foreigner in Alpenrheintal” for beginners

It is never easy to come to a new place and to build everything from a zero. No friends, no habitual surrounding, no favorite places. In most cases (for wives and girlfriends whose husbands and friends have got job in Switzerland) also no job – at least at the beginning. Here are few reasons not to despair but rather to take that chance as a good opportunity to paint your life with new colors. Tested on myself!

1.     Find and contact relocation specialists or companies. You are not the first and not the last, which comes to a new country, and most of questions you have are already answered and good solutions are already invented. Usually those people speak English, they know the local situation (real estate market, schools, doctors, documents etc.) and they are in touch with official institutions and organizations. They are your guides in your new life! In Buchs/SG you have ACV Relocation Solutions – contact them. Their words of advice were a great help for me. Ask them everything! Prepare the list of questions (you can include the points below to it) and march ahead.

2.     Start to study German ASAP. Not everybody here speaks English – that’s a fact. First couple of weeks I communicated with school teachers, hairdressers, cashiers and other people with few English words and a body language – but that can’t work long. Find German courses. A school year starts in August, but you can join a group any moment. Besides learning German itself, that’s an opportunity to meet other foreigners – that socializing can also help to answer some of your questions and to find new friends. My German teacher at Migros Klubschule sometimes even gives us lessons of Swiss German!

3.     Talk to local people. Use every small chance to study language even out of your language school – talk to people everywhere. Planning your next day, write down phrases, which could be necessary in particular situation. Better to speak with mistakes rather not to speak at all! Nobody cares about your accent, believe me. But when you say hallo and bye in Swiss German or just try to express yourself in German, people take it as a sign of respect and they will give you more respect back. Let it be single words first! You will see how people try to help you to find right words – keep those words in memory and use them in other situation. Catch the melody of language watching local TV and listening to a radio.

4.     Let your kids to help you to get integrated quicker. First month after coming home from a school my son, who never studied German before, cried for hours. “I understand nothing, he sobbed, and I will never learn to speak this language!” Last school year – his first one here - he has finished with a second best mark in German in his class. Kids play together with locals, they learn everything on the fly. So let your kids to teach you German. Ask them after school what have they learned today, what they discussed, how do different school subjects called, study grammar with your kids’ books.

5.     Explore surroundings. Don’t sit at home, especially on weekends (by the way, on Saturdays most shops close at 4 pm and on Sunday everything is closed, so don’t even hope to entertain yourself with a Sunday shopping or sitting in a café!). There are so many incredibly interesting places to visit in Switzerland! And they all are reachable by car or public transport and normally are open on weekends. Go in Internet, most of tourist websites have English version. Ask your local friends and colleagues, they can recommend you some special places. After living here for one year I have found out - just by chance - about a nice FREE open swimming pool in Oberschan! Read local newspapers – all those cows and goats’ beauty shows, traditional fests, handcrafts fairs are incredibly interesting, colorful, and different! That’s a chance to see a real Switzerland.

6.     Don’t give up with your hobbies here. It doesn’t really matter if you build plane models or make cross stitching, paint or weave baskets – find local people or clubs who do the same. Hobbies are speaking for us and you can feel much better when you enjoy your hobby even being apart from your home. If you don’t have hobby yet – it is a good chance to begin here. May be it will be traditional local furniture painting or portraying cows. Who knows! Try until you find something what is really YOURS and a lot of adaptation problems will just disappear.

7.     Think positive about being needed here. If you have some specific knowledge and skills, use them here. Are you a native English speaker or trained riding instructor? You can always find a target audience, people who needs your skills. Ask relocation specialists (ACV Relocation Solutions/Buchs in our case) how you can be useful here – they can advice you few directions and help to make first steps. Write down things you can really make good – from baking wedding cakes or making sushi up to teaching adults without an ear for music to play piano. And go ahead!

And last but not least – don’t fug at home! Don’t pity yourself and don’t regret about loosing your comfort zone. Use your chance to build something new in your life, believe in yourself and never give up. Finally INTEGRATION means the only one thing – you are IN AND you feel GREAT. Good luck!
